Apricots
Juicy Trivia
According to reports, apricots are one of the staple foods of the remote Hunza people of the Himalayas (reputed to live to an average age of 120 years old!) They are sweet, juicy and from the same family as the almond, cherry, peach and plum?
Juice or Smoothie?
Both! Although to make a glass of pure apricot juice would be very extravagant (and pretty thick in consistency). We would always recommend to blend the gorgeous flesh into a smoothie, but do of course remember to remove the stone (as you may end up needing to buy a new blender!)
Juicy Benefits
Apricots are loaded with beta-carotene (an excellent carotenoid that could aid in cancer prevention). These little orange-gold beauties contain more potassium and magnesium that you can throw a banana at (which helps supply us with energy, stamina and endurance). It is also an excellent blood builder, containing a large amount of iron and stacks of silicon to help your hair shine and your skin glow.
Apricots are rich in powerful antioxidants, such as lycopene, helping to promote wellness and strengthen the immune system. These healthy fruits are also a good source of fiber, beneficial for healthy digestion.
Research
A study by Jian L. Lee AH et al, published in the Asia pacific Journal of Clinical Nutrition, suggested that eating apricots rich in lycopene could help reduce the risk of men developing prostrate cancer.
