Let Us Elaborate On Colitis…
Ulcerative Colitis symptoms are very similar to Crohn’s disease and IBS.
Ulcerative Colitis is often the term given to the generalised condition of inflammation the rectum or colon (large intestine). Crohn’s disease however is diagnosed when there are several discrete and non-continuous patches of ulceration and inflammation, anywhere from the throat to the anus.
Symptoms of Ulcerative Colitis can include anaemia, weight loss, fatigue, loss of appetite, joint pain, rectal bleeding, diarrhoea and abdominal pain. Most people experience only mild symptoms, but some people can experience severe symptoms such as nausea, bloody diarrhoea and severe abdominal cramping. Ulcerative Colitis can go into remission for many years and then return.
Carbohydrates and sugars have been shown to promote the growth of yeast and bacteria in the intestines which causes imbalance, increasing the risk for Ulcerative Colitis. Eating red meats, proteins and the consumption of alcohol may also increase the risk of a relapse of the disease.
Infections, poor blood supply and autoimmune reactions can also be linked. Ulcerative Colitis is more common in men, although it can affect women too.
What To Avoid
- All processed, overcooked and starchy food, refined sugar, meat products, carbonated sugary drinks, tea, coffee, alcohol and smoking.
What To Include
- A live, raw, fresh diet will help soothe and improve this condition.
- Following a ‘juice only’ plan for a short period of time may also prove helpful in alleviating symptoms, but always consult with your doctor. Juice boosts, super foods and anything containing soil-based organisms (SBOs) can be helpful in controlling irritating bacteria and micro-organisms like candida albicans (which has been suspected of contributing to this condition). The same dietary approach and juices recommended for treating Crohn’s disease can be useful for colitis too, particularly during a flare-up.
- Cabbage
Cabbage Juice works wonders for digestive problems. Cabbage Juice contains sulforaphane, which kills off the bacterial causing stomach ulcers. You can add cabbage to your juices or try a cabbage shot, as featured in Super Juice Me! The Big Juice Experiment.

Red meat, apples & cabbage juice cured me – I know everyone is different but fruit and vegetables while healthy sounding are not good at all and chicken is really bad. In fact low fibre helped me & many I’ve spoken to.

That’s really good to here. We’d love to hear more from your experience if you have time. If you could email testimonials@juicemaster.com with some background to how you got into juicing and how you’d heard about the use of cabbage just for Colitis etc. that would be really great. – Daniel @JuicyHQ

J. Patterson, I’d love to hear more of your story, as well. I just started juicing cabbage juice yesterday. I’m primarily eating bananas and Garden of Life Protein Shake, with some celery and carrot juicing up to this point and in the evenings, I’ll had a steamed acorn squash or butternut squash or soaked brown rice with steamed greens occasionally. Just started cabbage, and I pray that it really helps calm this flare down that I’m in. I’m finding that I’m low in calcium and anemic as well, since I cannot tolerate animal proteins. I would love to know specifically how you healed, what you ate with the meat, apples and cabbage juice and how long it took to notice an improvement. Since I started the fruits (bananas, melons, juicing a little apple here and there, I’ve noticed my yeast levels have gotten out of hand. I thought maybe it was detox, but I don’t think so. I just need to heal as quickly as possible (I’m not on any meds) and would love any help/advice you can give. Thank you!

I consume a juice made of spinach, kale, cucumber, celery, and 1/4 in of ginger root. Sometimes I blend it to give me a feeling of satiety. Great drink
Judy
Adding some fresh fennel to cabbage juice helps calm the systems response to the cabbage. Ginger and lemon add lots of flavor, so you can actually enjoy your cabbage juice!
