Juicy Trivia

It may be a surprise but more mangos are consumed world while than the humble apple. According to folklore every part of the mango is beneficial and has been used in various types of treatments or preventatives down through the centuries.

Mango – ‘the king of fruits’, was cultivated in India about 5000 years ago and play a huge part of Indian life. It has been said that Buddha himself would often rest and meditate under the mango trees.

For all you romantics out there, one Hindu legend tells us that the mango tree grew from the ashes of the sun princess and the emperor fell in love with her instantly. However an evil sorceress who was jealous of the emperor’s love for the princess turned her to ashes. When the mango fruit ripened and fell to the ground, the beautiful sun princess emerged again. The emperor recognised his princess and made her his wife. Which meant the mango became a symbol of love, which is expressed in India by giving a basket full of mangoes as a gift.
